Funding boost for project developing kidneys from stem cells

A medical research project that will use human stem cells to develop mini kidneys has received nearly $1 million in funding from the federal government. The project will be led by Melbourne professor Melissa Little from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. Professor Little says the funding will go towards laboratory research to build better models with the stem cells, and transplanting the kidneys into animal models to see if it’s safe and effective.
